Course description

In this dynamic, interactive eight-week course, Gareth E. Rees will share ideas and practices to help you explore your life experiences in forms ranging from memoir to autofiction, creative nonfiction to writing about place. Through practical writing exercises and lively discussion you’ll discover ways to develop a distinctive narrative voice and frame the messy chaos of life into a fluid and engaging read, how to negotiate the challenges of writing about others or use landscape as a form of mediation and inspiration. You’ll delve into how to approach the ambiguities and uncertainties of memory and examine ways of bringing the techniques of fiction into non-fiction (and vice versa) to create vivid and original texts, while exploring techniques for research, planning and the writing process. Finally, feedback from your fellow course members and the course tutor will provide support and inspiration for progressing your own writing.
