Course description
You’ve finished your novel – now what? In this practical, interactive three-hour workshop, led by leading literary agent Hannah Sheppard, you’ll learn what an agent does, why they’re important, and, crucially, how to get one. You’ll explore ways to craft an attention-grabbing pitch line, use examples to begin writing your own concise but compelling cover letter, and identify the secrets to an (almost) pain free synopsis, leaving the session with the first draft of a submission package, as well as a host of pitching tips - and pitfalls to avoid.
About the tutor
Hannah Sheppard was an editor at Macmillan Children’s Books, and Headline, part of Hachette Publishing Group, for ten years. After joining the DHH Literary Agency in 2013 she realised the more senior her role became, the less she got to do the part of her job she really loves – working directly with authors to develop their ideas for commercial success. In 2023 Hannah launched the Hannah Sheppard Literary Agency, where she represents commercial fiction across children’s and adult’s markets, including by authors such as Philippa Leathley (Inkbound) and Sarah Bonner (How to Slay At Work).
