Memoir With Jeremy Atherton Lin

  • Starts 23 May
  • 195 British pounds
  • 7 Trinity Street, Hastings TN34 1HG

Service Description

This eight-week course, led by Jeremy Atherton Lin, whose blend of memoir and history has been described as 'beautiful and original' (The New York Times) and 'a rich tapestry' (Vanity Fair), positions memoir as not just a way of announcing ourselves, but of perceiving the world around us. Participants will explore ways to write authentically about their own experiences, while reflecting on the role of aspects such as history, politics, the natural world and the built environment in their work, and will consider how we can speak in the first person in ways that connect with others. By working closely with the course tutor, they will develop work based around subjects that are integral to their outlook and identity, opening up possibilities for what forms their work could take next. Note: to ensure you get the most from your course, we would encourage you to have an idea for a memoir project in mind before your first session, and to think, even just in general terms (as this is an idea you'll explore in more depth during the course), about how your own story might connect with, or reflect, the world around you. Thanks!
