Spoken Word Workshop

This exciting immersion into spoken word poetry is based on the belief that writing should be playful, cathartic and fun, and that by performing our work we are participating in something connective and transformative. Over the ten-week programme participants will cultivate tools for a committed and enriching connection to their writing practice, while classes will cover a diverse range of skills and techniques focusing on both writing and performance, ranging from poetic elements such as imagery and narrative voice, to the physical aspects of spoken word, such as breath control and the power of the pauseThe workshop programme will culminate in an open mic style evening where participants can share and perform their work.

The Hastings Writers Workshop spoken word workshop takes place in the upstairs studio space at the Electric Palace cinema in the heart of Hastings Old Town. As with all our workshops, members are entitled to a 15% discount at the fabulous Hastings Bookshop during and for one month after the programme.
